Today, we bought some chocolate mint for our herb garden. It looks pretty much like regular mint but smells like those little Andes chocolate/mint candies.

The girl in the nursery says she lays it on top of her coffee grounds (I'm assuming a drip maker) to flavour her coffee.

When the plants get bigger, we might give it a try.

Just wondering if anyone else has added anything like that to their coffee and how it worked out.

I know lots of people enjoy mint tea, but I hadn't given it a thought for coffee.

First of all, I've never heard of chocolate mint plant. Are the leaves a chocolate color?
As they say, "You learn something new every day!"

The girl at the nursery may be on to something. People often ask me to put a shot of chocolate mint syrup in their coffee. The syrup smells like the dark chocolate mint Andes candies, but it's basically flavored sugar.

I think you need to give it a try and report back to us.

The leaves are green - it looks almost like regular mint but a little more viney.

We also bought an orange mint that's not quite as aromatic, but had an interesting smell.

Passed on the apple mint - somehow, those scents didn't seem to go together for me.

They did have a chocolate basil that was dark - I thought about buying one, but the little peat pots were so soggy they were falling apart.

What were you originally planning to use the mint leaves for? Iced tea?

Nothing really - I just like the smell.

I love iced tea, but not with mint. To be completely honest, I don't really like flavoured coffee either, but it was an interesting idea.

Mint ? I think it goes better with white rum.................and a splash of lemon juice..............oh yeah, don't forget a little sugar!

Mojitos, right?

I wasn't even thinking about that. For some reason, I just like peppermint candy.

The real reason I think I like the mint plants so much is that we had a big patch in our yard mixed in with some purple irises under a huge sycamore tree that came up every single year when I was growing up. I remember rubbing the leaves between my fingers for the aroma when I was playing outside.

For some reason, I can't seem to get any established, so I just buy it when I see it.
