Just curious what you guys would choose between the Zassenhaus 169 DG or the Peugeot Bresil for grinding french press? My understanding from the articles I read is that the Peugeot is more consistent? I read an article earlier on this board but all the replies just tried talking people into the OE Pharo and I'm not in the market for as 250 doallr hand grinder. I'd appreciate some feedback

Based on all the reading I've done on hand mills, most aren't designed to do coarse grinding very well. Orphan Espresso just released a new hand mill similar to the Pharos, but smaller and more for coarse grinding. It's called the LIDO.

I'd also recommend taking a look at their used/for sale hand mills. Before they started making their own line of mills, OE would buy, restore, grade and sell very nice hand mills. They still have many unrestored mills at great prices, but they don't seem to be grading them on performance and are selling AS IS... they can be found here...

If any of those interest you I'm sure Doug or Barb at OE would be able to give you an idea of which of those mills are better suited for coarse grinding, etc. before you buy.

thanks for getting back to me. I was hoping to stay around 60 or 70 for a grinder. OE s website says they work fine for coarse just that the peugeot is a little more consistent. I didnt know if they were just biased on that tho. Probably not they seem to be the king of grinders on the net.. money no object i would get their big stable conical burr mills in a heart beat. I was reading that u need to turn the knobs a little closer to the fine setting from the coarse setting on the two mills were talking about and then the grind comes out a bit better. not sure hopefully we can get someon on here to chime in thats used them

OE doesn't seem the least bit biased to me. They stand firmly behind what they say/sell and IMO know hand mills better than anyone else out there.

No idea what type of burr adjustment you read about to make the grind better.
