Hello there,

In terms of degassing I am assuming I would not be able to store just roasted beans in a polythene heat sealed bag?

Is it okay to store just roasted beans in brown paper bags? And whats the best way to seal/ close the brown paper bag?

Thanks in advance :)

To seal the paper bags, place a thumb and index finger on opposite sides of the upper corners of the closed bag. Raise the thumbs while simultaneously lowering the fingers until the top of the package has been rolled down sufficiently to achieve closure. To open, turn bag around 180* and repeat above procedure.

Hi Heather11'

Welcome to the Coffee Forums.

It seems like we need a little more information in order to answer your questions about packaging.

Are you buying and storing roasted coffee for your own use? or Are you planning to roast coffee and store it to sell?

Plain brown paper bags (like school lunch bags) won't keep the air out of the beans. Plus, they're difficult to seal, and it's not a good idea to store coffee that way.

We've had a lot of discussions about storing roasted coffee. It looks like more information is needed before anyone can offer you some suggestions.

.....But seriously, are you a producer or end user?

Roasters may purchase poly bags with degassing valves or lined, Kraft paper bags with tin ties for sealing bags. We use two types of Kraft paper bags. One has a thicker lining to keep the oils of dark roasts from bleeding through. For wholesale orders going to retail markets, we place a clear sticker over the rolled down edge of the tin tie/bag to stop people from opening the bags on the shelf.

elbub,

I just discovered that the "like" button is gone. I was tempted to "like" your last post describing how to fold a paper bag - it made me laugh!

But I am having trouble with step two of your process. The beans keep falling out.
